#BookTwub Review – 27 October 2011

It was a quiet old night for the #BookTwub. Most people hadn’t read the chosen book Cutting for Stone and so discussion on that was fairly limited. Those who had read it liked it and would recommend to friends, my review is here. I thoroughly enjoyed it….

Saw

This entry is part 10 of 12 in the series Hallowe'en Horror Week

Since starting preparation for Hallowe’en Horror Week, my husband has been telling me that I have to review Saw. I’ve resisted up until now but I started to wonder if my reluctance to watch the original film again had been created by by dislike of (and distaste for) the later movies …

Top Ten: Scary Movies

This entry is part 9 of 12 in the series Hallowe'en Horror Week

It’s only a couple of days now until Hallowe’en and like many other film reviewers I’ve been thinking lots about my favourite scary movies. At first I was apprehensive, I seem to have spent a long time telling you that I’m not a fan of the genre so I really thought that it would take me ages to even come up with 10 that I liked….

The Muppets Final Parody Trailer

If the new Muppets movie is half as good as its marketing then it’s going to be brilliant. I’ve loved the trailers that have been coming out over the past couple of months and I’m really quite excited about the film itself. Jason Segal is a sweetie and Amy Adams is possibly the most adorable actress working today – the pair seem to be a perfect fit for a Muppets film. Disney have released the final parody trailer ….

Shaun of the Dead

This entry is part 8 of 12 in the series Hallowe'en Horror Week

For fans of the cult TV programme Space, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were already familiar and well-liked faces but for most people Shaun of the Dead provided an introduction to the two actors and their own special brand of comedy. Shaun of the Dead really is a genre busting film…

Cutting for Stone

A confession to begin with. My name is Louise and I’m a book-buying addict. It can be from Amazon for my Kindle, or in the supermarket or even in the charity shop. Anywhere I can get hold of an interesting looking book I will. One of the downsides of this is that I buy books on a whim and then take a long time to get round to them….

The Birds

This entry is part 7 of 12 in the series Hallowe'en Horror Week

When we lived in Leatherhead we had a lovely garden that the local birds used to visit regularly for food. Whenever we would put a fat cake the starlings would flock to us. Squabbling, squawking, fighting they would strip the food in a matter of minutes. It was a sight to behold and very often I would mutter “It’s like The Birds out there”….

Tam o’ Shanter

This entry is part 6 of 12 in the series Hallowe'en Horror Week

I’ve been looking for different ways to celebrate Hallowe’en Horror Week. I wanted to review a variety of different films from the benign and funny like Shaun of the Dead to more violent and bloodcurdling shockers like Saw. That was simple enough, but I was still unsure of what to do for book reviews….

#BookTwub Review – 20 October 2011

Another Thursday and another #BookTwub chat on Twitter. The fallout from last week’s Roald Dahl/Enid Blyton feud continued. This week though there were more boys taking part in the discussion so Dahl topped the poll. If I counted all of the votes that came in the following day…. Dahl would still have won…

World Book Night 2012

World Book Night is an opportunity for those of us who love books to share our passion with those who may not be such big reading fans. In just one night 1 million books are distributed by over 20,000 ‘givers’ – a great celebration of adult literature..
