More Les Mis Casting News

I breathed a massive sigh of relief this morning when I read that Eddie Redmayne has been cast as Marius in the film adaptation of Les Miserables.  Not because I’m a big fan of his, in fact I know nothing about him although he has a strong theatrical background which is encouraging.  No – my sigh of relief was entirely due to the fact that Nick Jonas hadn’t won the role.  Most people seem to agree with me that his performance of Marius at the 25th Anniversary Concert was a disaster and made us all wish Michael Ball could play Marius until the end of time.  It might be a bit harsh on the Jonas Brother, after all he was only 18 and really not ready for the role last October, but had he been cast as Marius I think that would have put me off the film completely.

Redmayne joins Hugh Jackman as Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Helena Bonham-Carter as Madame Thernadier in the confirmed line-up.  Still waiting for final news of our Eponine, Cosette, Enjolras and Thernadier (although Geoffrey Rush is strongly rumoured and would be great) but I’m starting to feel a little less worried.  Filming is due to start in February and a release is scheduled for December 2012 so more news is coming soon.  Who do you think would be great in the roles still to be cast?  Let me know in the comments.

  1. Welcome to The LAMB, Louise!

I’m excited about Les Mis too (only 14 months to wait!). And you may be hearing more from Redmayne soon, as he’s starring opposite Michelle Williams in My Week With Marilyn later this month.

    • Thanks. I feel a proper movie blogger now :-)

Hoping that the rest of the Les Mis news is as encouraging as this.
