The Iron Lady Trailer Arrives

The full trailer for The Iron Lady, the Margaret Thatcher biopic has arrived online and it appears to show a fairly sympathetic portrayal of the former British Prime Minister and her life.  Early word came out on Twitter yesterday which seemed to imply that the Daily Mail critic enjoyed the film and the Guardian critic hated it.  So no tribalism there then….

It’s going to be hard for the film to get an honest reaction based on its artistic merits rather than viewers’ opinions of the subject.  We’re going to be faced with reactions ranging from fawning and nauseating sycophancy to downright viciousness and cruelty.  Neither side of the debate will show their more positive attributes….  As for me, I’m just looking forward to an interesting film with some great performances, particularly from the chameleon like Meryl Streep as Mrs T and the brilliant Jim Broadbent who looks amazing as Dennis, the always loyal husband.  I’m not so sure about Richard E Grant playing Hezza though and John Major not appearing on the IMDB credits at all seems a little odd but let’s see what the movie brings.

  1. Can’t wait to see this film particularly because I want to see what sort of political slant it has on Thatcher, and also because Meryl Streep looks like she’s nailed the Iron Lady.
