Ghostbusters 3 – are we going to call them?

Dan Aykroyd is still hopeful that Ghostbusters 3 will be made.  He seems confident that the third installment will start filming in Spring next year.  This film will apparently feature new, younger Ghostbusters taking on the mantle of protector against all things ectoplasmic from the original stars, although Aykroyd still isn’t sure if Bill Murray will be involved with the new film.

I’m not sure how I feel about this.  I love everything to do with Ghostbusters, even the old cartoon, and I’m glad they are considering continuing the story rather than completely remaking it. I do also wonder if the amount of time that it is taking to get this off the ground is a sign from above that the franchise should be left to rest in peace.

What do you think?  Would love to hear your opinions in the comments.

  1. It is often the case that a sequel made many years after a very successful original has somehow hurt the franchise as a whole. Then again Nolan’s Batman films have been a revelation. That said, I doubt Ghostbusters 3 will be that radical. I was under the impression this had already entered production with Seth Rogen playing one of the ‘young’ ghostbusters but I haven’t kept up with the news on this one.

…I’d love the see the original cast back together again but you do fear it will have lost a little of the chemistry it had back in the 1980s.
